Meet Rashanah Baldwin
Rashanah Baldwin is a noted TV/ Radio journalist and recipient of the Mark of Excellence Award by The Society of Professional Journalists.
Rashanah is a social architect, accomplished broadcast journalist, and public affairs professional. Between her professional career as a senior advisor for Avoq, a project manager for Bloomberg Associates, and the founder of the Baldwin Media Group, she manages to give back to under-resourced neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago. Rashanah is a neighborhood strategy advisor with NHS Chicago, and her ability to establish partnerships and leverage her extensive network has allowed her to make a meaningful impact across Chicago communities. She’s developed partnerships among corporations, elected officials, community organizations, community leaders, city-wide institutions, and residents to bring new businesses that stabilize housing and the local economy, making the neighborhoods more liveable, walkable, and safer. She previously worked as a communications coordinator for Illinois Lieutenant Governor Julianna Stratton, leading the communications efforts to uplift the Justice Equity Opportunity Initiative on justice reform and policy. What sets Rashanah apart is her goal to change perceptions by promoting inclusive/ positive news and community revitalization via her “Good in Englewood” campaign and podcast “Someone You Need To Know.” She is active on boards with Growing Home Inc., NHS Chicago, The Reporter’s Inc., CAN-TV, and Women In Planning and Development.
Rashanah’s work has been featured in the New York Best Seller “Broadcasting Happiness” and the best-selling book “The Future of Happiness.” She has been featured in many local documentaries, news outlets in Chicago, as the front cover of the Chicago Tribune, PBS, and national news outlets like Huffington Post. She has worked for Chicago media outlets such as WBEZ 91.5 FM (NPR-Affiliate), WGN 720 AM, WVON 1690 AM, WBBM 780 AM (CBS Radio), CBS -2, NBC, and Fox Chicago News. She holds a B.A. in Mass Communications from the University of Illinois-Chicago and an M.A. Degree in Journalism from DePaul University.
Hailing from the Englewood community of Chicago, she learned a lot about resiliency as a young Black girl reared by a strong Black woman to assert herself in the marketplace. Her need to give back has resulted in several community awards, including, Chicago’s Most Impactful Young Professionals Recognized As Part of Chicago Scholars 35 under 35 Awards Who Are Poised to Become the Next Generation of Leaders, Outstanding Service To The Community Award by DePaul University, Newsradio WBBM 780 AM – 50 Newsmakers Making A Difference, and 2018 Recipient of Chicago Defender’s Women of Excellence Award.
As a millennial woman of purpose, she is leading the charge by changing the way communities of color are covered in national and local news.
