Chicago’s very own Mathew A. Cherry, former NFL Player turned Oscar award-winning Film Director was welcomed home on February 20, 2020, to a Black History Celebration by Macy’s and a toast to his latest success, an Oscar.

The celebration included a screening of his new Oscar-winning short film “Hair Love” followed by a “Q&A” where Cherry discussed making behind the film was to show the positive representation of Black fathers in the media and to normalize Black hair.

“Hair Love” is now available on Youtube is a seven-minute animated film about a father attempting to combine his daughter’s natural hair for the first time. Hair Love was also turned into a children’s book which is available for purchase.
